The sound of Varist.

Varist is a Brooklyn-based selector known for building slow-burning, story-driven sets that move between house, disco, downtempo, and leftfield electronics. His approach prioritizes flow, pacing, and emotional continuity over quick transitions or chasing peaks — treating each set as a cohesive arc rather than a collection of tracks. Varist creates dance floors that reward attention, creating spaces where subtle shifts in rhythm and texture carry as much weight as the drops.

Varist debuted his retro funky house flavor in October 2023 with Book Club Radio.

Since that auspicious beginning, he has played the Wandering Woods, Lightning In A Bottle, and Book Club Radio festivals, delivered a 5-hour funky house set in Zürich, and become a fixture of the Brooklyn underground — working with Elsewhere, Dancescape, PAN!C ROOM, Under The Table NYC, Club Moledro, Newtown Radio, Off The Record, and more.

The greatest question ever asked in a song is, "How did I get here?" And I ask myself this daily.

But over the last 3 years of my journey, I think I figured it out. I have a passion for crafting good sets, an appreciation for all the people around me, and an openness that enables emotional honesty.

This isn't about being the biggest, best, and brightest for me. It's about bringing people into a space, onto a dancefloor, where they can both laugh and cry as they so choose. My sets are informed both by the euphoria of discovering this new life and the grief of losing one of my sons in 2023.

I learned from him that every day is a chance to make somebody's day better, and so that's what I try to do.
